LISTA's South Florida Emerging Technology Leadership Summit
Campeones de Nuestra Comunidad Awards Luncheon 
and Business Match Making Event - March 4-5, 2013
With over 120 + attendees Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association (LISTA) held their 2-day South Florida Emerging Technology Leadership at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus in Miami, Florida.  

Day one began with a warm welcome from the college’s President, Madeline Pumariega along with opening speeches made by Rosanna Durruthy, Chief Diversity Officer of Cigna Corporation, LISTA’s National Chair, Javier Polit and LISTA’s National President, Jose Marquez. This day was filled with panel discussion by experts such as Javier Polit, CIO of Coca-Cola Bottling Investments Group, Adriana Garcia Espinoza, Regional Director of South East Praxis, Eduardo Cortez, 
With over 300 + attendees Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association (LISTA) held their 6th Annual National Emerging Technology Leadership Summit at the Melia Hotel in Atlanta, GA. 

The ETL Summit theme was a "Call to Action" and it concentrated on diversity and inclusion, and enabled leaders to develop core competencies in Employee Resource Groups, while discussing issues affecting Latinos in the technology industry. 

Summit began on Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012 with a Special VIP Welcome Reception, hosted by the LISTA Georgia Technology Council and the Georgia Black/Latino Council, featuring a special message from Dr. Bernice A. King, CEO of the Martin Luther King Center and Academy Acclaimed actor Pepe Serna.

Dr. King spoke on the strength of her mother Coretta Scott King and Pepe Serna spoke on how to continue to reinvent yourself in your career in order to find work in a difficult job market.

During the luncheon, awards were bestowed upon the Campeones de Nuestra Comunidad for their contribution and tireless work towards uplifting the Latino Community. Recipients were, Ileana Ros Lehtinen , Congresswoman, Florida’s 27th District (Government Beacon of the Year 2012), David Hernandez, President & CEO, Liberty Power (CEO of the Year 2012), José M. Hernández, Engineer, Politician & NASA Astronaut (Trend Setter of the Year 2012), Tony Hernandez, Co-Founder – Producer, Immigration Archive Project (Visionary of the Year 2012), Rosanna Durruthy, Chief Diversity Officer – Cigna Corporation (Corporate Citizen of the Year 2012). Attendees were able to obtain a personal autographed copy of “Reaching for the Stars: The Inspiring Story of a Migrant Farm Worker Turned Astronaut” written by our own Astronaut, José M. Hernández, who also delivered inspirational and thought provoking words to the attendees as our keynote speaker. Other highlights of the luncheon included the induction of LISTA’s National Chair, Javier Polit, CIO, Coca Cola – Bottling Investments Group and remarks by Millie Herrera, Southeast Regional Representative – US Department of Labor. In the evening, everyone was able to unwind during our networking reception.
Day two began with informative seminars delivered by Jonel Hein, Deputy District Director – Florida District Office - Small Business Administration, Frank Velasco, Business Development Specialist, Small Business Administration, Rod Colón, CEO, Rod Colón Consulting, LLC and Gandy Thomas, Consul General of Haiti. During the second half of the day, local suppliers were able to participate in 15-minute face-to-face meetings with local and national buyers during our Business MatchMaking Event powered by MyBusinessMatches.com.
